A Special Poutine in New York City

My mom and I went on a trip to New York City this week. I love NYC! This was my second time there and I think it's my favourite city in the whole world! We saw School of Rock on Broadway and even got to meet some of the cast! It was the best show ever. And we had a very fancy tea at The Plaza Hotel in The Palm Court where all my food was tiny and delicious.
The best part of our trip was that we got to stay with my parents' friends at their apartment. It was so beautiful. The views of New York were amazing.

Kent and Leslie, who we were staying with, decided they wanted to be on my blog! So Kent made us poutine one night while we were there! Leslie also thought we should try something called "California Fries" from a restaurant called Petey's Burger. It was fry heaven!

I won't review the California Fries because it's not REAL poutine, but I will tell you that they were great! It's a dish with french fries, their own secret sauce (which is a lot like Thousand Islands Dressing), grilled onions and American cheese.
Here is my review of KENT'S POUTINE!

Fries: 2/2

  • The fries Kent used was also from Petey's Burger. Kent thought their fries would be better than anything he could make. And... he was right! Their fries are homemade and fresh cut. Some of them were crispy and crunchy which I love! They weren't too big so you could get a good fork full at a time. Excellent fries.

Curds: 2/2

  • Kent actually got his curds imported by the St. Albert Cheese Company! If you know poutine, then you know these are the BEST curds. They were nice and juicy and there was enough so you could get a curd on every bite.

Gravy: 1/2

  • To keep things traditional, Kent used the famous St. Hubert Poutine Gravy mix. At first I wondered what powdered gravy would be like, but was good! Very good flavour to it and it wasn't too salty.

Overall Dish: 3.5/4

  • I think the poutine was very good all together. It had the melty curd taste to it. And you could really taste those excellent fries from Petey's Burger. There wasn't too much gravy either, it was the perfect amount to be able to enjoy the poutine without it dripping everywhere or making the fries too soggy.

TOTAL: 8.5/10

The Red House

Last night I went to The Red House West  (you can click on the name to go to their website) and had their poutine. Here is what I think: Fries: 1.5/2 The french fries were mouth watering. Not too salty. And they were home made. Curds: 2/2 The curds were excellent. There were lots of curds. And they were very melty. Gravy: 1.5/2 The gravy was great. Also not too salty. And there wasn't too much of it. And it was a bit peppery. Overall Dish: 3/4 All together the poutine was great. The ingredients all mixed together were delicious. The fries didn't get soggy and they all tasted great. You should "Try The Poutine"! TOTAL: 8/10

Brockville Poutinefest

Last weekend we drove alllll the way to Brockville, Ontario, to go to Poutinefest  because I was chosen to be an official judge in the contest for the best poutine. But, I didn't get to be a judge because I was there "at the wrong time" and they kept telling us it's at 2:45. I was so upset, that I wanted to leave but my family said why don't we have fun?! So we did! We tried the Original Poutine from the BBQ Babes (they are on Facebook)! And they  were SO nice to me!   They let me come in the truck and put on an apron and use their special French fry cutter!! They made so much of a fuss about me and it made my day better. Thank you so much BBQ Babes you're the best!   Here is my review!   Fries: 2/2 They are hand cut. They were cooked perfectly. Some were crunchy and I loved them.  Curds: 2/2 They weren't in big pieces which is good! And they were nice and squeaky! Delicious! Gravy: 2/2 I think the gravy was perfect! Not too s...
